Future leaders in property

Supporting the next generation of female leaders

Supporting a commitment to enhance gender diversity within the property sector, Dexus created the Future Leaders in Property (FLIP) program to offer a pathway for the next generation of female property leaders.

In collaboration with The Careers Department, a year-long program was launched into high schools in FY21 aimed at inspiring, challenging and shaping career plans across all aspects of property. Aligning to the STEM+ curriculum, the program involved female students in Year 10 from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

In Sydney, students from Monte Sant Angelo Mercy College, SCEGGS Darlinghurst and St Scholastica’s College enhanced their understanding in key aspects of the property sector by listening to panel discussions featuring Dexus’s leadership team and participating in interactive group sessions and team building exercises.

The cohort was provided access to a live build at 25 Martin Place where Dexus was undertaking a transformational redevelopment of the retail precinct. Here, they heard from Dexus’s all-female project leadership team, learning first-hand about property management, leasing, development management, architecture, construction, marketing, and analytics.

In Melbourne, students at St Catherine’s School were hosted at the Melbourne Connect Precinct, home to the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology’s new workspace. This module involved a tour of the precinct, learning about sustainability and innovation in the property industry.

While in Brisbane, students from Somerville House and Lourdes Hill College gained unique insights into the planning of Dexus’s city-shaping development, Waterfront Brisbane.

The FLIP program continues to be an exciting initiative by Dexus, empowering young women to consider the diverse career opportunities available within the property sector. In providing these students with a unique view of property at the source, Dexus hopes more talented young women will consider building their career in property.
