Offshore investors expanding their investments in Australia

Offshore investors are expanding their investments in Australia much more than they were prior to the pandemic.

Dexus’s Deborah Coakley joins PERE’s latest Australian roundtable discussing the appeal of Australian real estate to foreign investors and its potential growth post the pandemic.

The panel “admitted that Australia’s vaccination program had been slow compared with other developed markets” however it was agreed the post-lockdown recovery would be swift, with heightened interest from investors towards what were previously ‘less-loved’ sectors.  Despite the nation’s closed borders, foreign capital continues to seek Australian real estate.

The opinions of the panel are supported by our recent Australian Real Estate Quarterly Review.  Our view is the year ahead is still expected to see improving occupier demand for real estate in most sectors and markets, with industrial and healthcare having the strongest outlook. In addition, investment demand for quality real estate is likely to remain supported by low interest rates.
