Dexus partners with the Black Dog Institute

The Black Dog Institute (Black Dog) is a global leader in mental health research and the only Medical Research Institute (MRI) in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan.

The Dexus partnership with Black Dog is designed to support their vision: To create a mentally healthier world. And during these challenging times, mental health has never been more important. Research from Black Dog shows 78% of Australians said their mental health had worsened as a result of COVID-19.

Even prior to COVID-19, mental health had become a major area of concern for all Australians. The pandemic has only served to increase the incidence of mental ill-health, and therefore the need for help in providing assistance to those people dealing with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and a host of other feelings.

Given Dexus’s broad reach via its retail centres, office buildings, industrial and healthcare spaces across Australia, the partnership with Black Dog means there is opportunity to make large scale impact on mental health.

Promoting Black Dog’s work and making its research, education programs, digital tools, clinical services, and public resources accessible to the Dexus network will support Dexus’s employees, customers and the local communities in which it operates. These resources will also help to mentally equip Dexus’s surrounding communities with the knowledge in how to seek help, have tough conversations and practice wellbeing.

The Dexus partnership with Black Dog will also involve promoting fundraising initiatives to Dexus’s employees and customers, which will enable Black Dog to continue to conduct innovative and ground-breaking research in suicide prevention, youth and workplace mental health.

Both Black Dog and Dexus are committed to having a strong social impact and want to work towards building resilient, mentally fit communities. Long term, Dexus and Black Dog aim to work together to make a real-world impact including reducing the severity and incidence of mental illness, actively reducing suicide rates, destigmatising mental illness and empowering everyone to look after their mental health.
