Car park solar reaches new heights at Willows shopping centre

As part of our commitment to improving energy efficiency, we’ve harnessed solar power at Dexus Wholesale Property Fund’s (DWPF) Willows Shopping Centre in Townsville, completing the installation of one of Australia’s largest car park solar arrays with 4,800 panels generating around 2,500 MWh per year.

This initiative will reduce centre usage of grid-purchased electricity and associated carbon emissions, and supports Dexus’s pathway to net zero emissions across its managed portfolio by 2030.

Our goal is to power our high performing buildings with clean renewable energy, including the use of onsite solar photovoltaics. The onsite solar solution delivered at Willows also provides an improved shopper experience with the addition of more than 500 new shaded car spaces.

Willows is one of the leading shopping centres in Far North Queensland and has been successfully expanded over the years to meet the continued strong demand in the local area for quality convenience retail and services in a modern shopping destination. With over 130 stores across almost 40,000sqm, Willows is a popular destination for families with more than 5.5 million visitations each year.

The increased use of renewable energy is part of our Enriched Environment objective to manage an efficient and resilient portfolio that minimises our environmental footprint and is positioned to thrive in a climate-affected future.
