Carbon neutral in 2021: APN Industria REIT achieves carbon neutral certification

APN Industria REIT (Industria) has achieved carbon neutral certification covering both its corporate activities and the emissions associated with its property portfolio.

Industria is one of the first A-REIT’s to be certified carbon neutral across both its portfolio and operations, in accordance with the Climate Active Standard. Climate Active’s carbon neutral certification is awarded to businesses and organisations that are determined to achieve net zero emissions (carbon neutrality).

Over the past four years, Industria’s investments in 2.5 Megawatts of onsite solar installations has saved approximately 2.4 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions from being released into the atmosphere, exceeding the emissions attributable to the portfolio under the Climate Active standard. This has resulted in buildings at Brisbane Technology Park being 49% self-sufficient during daylight hours.

Reductions in emissions associated with Industria’s operations were largely achieved across head office corporate activities and reductions in the business’s travel-related emissions.

Industria Fund Manager, Alex Abell, said: “We set our ambitious carbon neutral target in 2020, seeking certification not only across our operations but also across the property portfolio under our operational control. The energy generated from our investments in solar is more than double the energy we consume, reducing our reliance on the grid.

“We look forward to leveraging the Dexus platform to further reduce our carbon footprint, with an additional 1.35 Megawatts of solar installations planned in FY22.”

Industria and Dexus are both members of the Climate Active Network.
